Barefoot
We would say mostly. There's a blog here for more information.
The short answer is of the 4 pillars of barefoot shoes (wide, thin, flat, flexible).
Wide: We are the same width as big brands like Vivobarefoot, Lem's, and Xero.
Thin: Our stack height is 20mm.
Flat: We have zero drop as well as other options.
Flexible: Our shoes are as flexible as we can get them without compromising longevity.
There is room for a neutral toe splay. This means you have room for a natural separation between your toes (we know this is a bit different for every person).
If you prefer more room you can order our Wide Last option here.
Our stack height is 20mm for 'Shop' or Goodyear welted shoes.
Our Blake stitched shoes stack height is 17mm.
There is the same amount of ground feel as a traditional dress shoe, maybe slightly more depending on the brand.
This is the area we are experimenting most with behind the scenes.
Flexibility is enough for use in walking and formal settings. Since you're not in the gym or running on rugged terrain you don't need as much.
If you would like to know more you can read here (There's also a video as well ;)).
Our 'Shop' Collection is designed to fit most feet. Think of it as the middle of the bell curve.
We are working on narrow and wide versions as well, sign up for our newsletter to here more.
Zero drop shoes give you the most opportunity to improve your posture since it's a natural position.
The higher a heel gets the more you have to adjust your body to maintain optimal posture. This is affected by endurance of your muscles as well.
Ultimately your posture is a result of your own awareness and control.
We want everyone to be able to buy a pair of shoes that works best for their lifestyle and aesthetic preference.

Most custom orthotics will fit in our shoes. If you are unsure, we offer generous returns and exchanges.

Depending on how much walking or standing you do, or plan to do, adjusting to your shoes is sound advice.
Your chances of having a good experience will improve if you transition patiently.
The most important thing is to listen to your body and if needed consult a professional.
If your condition is one that will be improved by having more room in the toebox...it's possible.
No shoes all on their own will fix anything. Please consult a professional for your specific condition.
If you are comfortable barefoot, or have been in barefoot shoes before you will know what to expect from your footwear and body.
That being said, our shoes may or may not be ok for you. There are people with flat feet who are fine in our shoes; and there are people with high arches who also are fine.
You're best option is to consult a professional as to what is causing your specific condition. Sometimes, that is just how your feet are and there isn't anything that needs to be corrected.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Our shoes are handmade in Spain in a family owned factory that prioritizes their workers and fair trade/wages. They're great!
You can read more about them here.
We source our leather from the following tanneries:
- Tannery DuPuy in France
- Horween in Chicago
- C.F. Stead in England
If you would like more information on a specific leather read the guide here.
No, we may incorporate that option in the future. We are still looking for suppliers we align with.
"Leather" is the grain side of a hide which is smoother and more mainstream in formal shoes.
"Suede" is the other side of the hide with a rougher appearance and texture.
For a full explanation you can read more here.
Janus Calf is the best because of it's waterproof properties, luxurious hand feel, and exquisite nap.
You can read more about Janus Calf and our other leathers here.
All of our 'Shop' Collection is Goodyear welted.
With our 'Limited Editions' we sometimes opt for a Blake Stitch.
We do not use any other methods, as we have chosen these for quality and longevity. We don't believe in cutting corners or skimping on quality.
To learn more about each construction method click here.
Through 'Limited Editions' when we decide to use a Blake Stitch instead of our usual Goodyear Welt.
We only offer Blake Stitch on shoes, boots are only available with a Goodyear welt.
Each leather we use has a different degree of weather resistance. Some leathers are more resistant than others.
Please read more here for detailed information on each leather.
Care & Longevity
Every leather wears in a little differently, but the break-in period we consider around 2-4 wears.
The leather will conform more and more to your foot over time. If the creases are initially uncomfortable we recommend taking the shoe through that specific motion, or even helping the leather to "learn" to crease at a specific point.
You can read or watch a brief guide here.
The upper leather will stretch somewhat over time; but the initial fit is pretty similar to the long term fit, we don't expect you to experience drastic differences. This does depend on the volume of your foot relative to the volume of the shoe.
The leather will become more supple over time and thus more comfortable with every wear.
The most important factor in making your shoes last a long time is keeping the leather properly moisturized.
Step 1 is removing any dirt or debris with a rag or brush.
Step 2 is moisturizing the leather.
Step 3 is removing any excess product.
Please note that leather and suede are cared for differently. You can read more here with our leather and suede care guide.
No, but it is a helpful practice that keeps the appearance of the leather more uniform since it helps to smooth out wrinkles in the leather and makes it easier to condition or clean your shoes.
Yes! You can take your shoes to any local cobbler to replace the outsole. Essentially making your shoes last a lifetime.
Yes, our shoes will last for 10 years or even longer. This applies to the uppers of the shoes since some people walk more than others and may wear down their outsole more quickly.
To have your outsole repaired simply visit a local cobbler.
Many people rotate their shoes to prolong the life of each shoe.
This is because moisture from sweat can break down some of the components of dress shoes and the rest time allows them to dry.
This is largely dependent on how much your feet sweat. Although, it is never a bad practice; it is not completely necessary.
